More wintry weather
High pressure March
Issued: 2000hrs Saturday 29th December 2007
Duty forecasters: Simon Keeling & Captain Bob
The stage is set for a cold February, high pressure controls through most of March

February 2008
An unsettled beginning is anticipated with low pressure in control. All areas rather mixed with showers or longer spells of rain, and cold enough at times to be falling wintry especially over northern areas.
Quite early in the month a change is expected to more settled and colder conditions as high pressure builds to the north or northeast, although with low pressure to the east, some wintry showers can be expected over eastern areas.
There is an increased risk of wintry conditions through the middle of the month as low pressure takes a controlling influence, many areas at risk of snowfall.
Remaining on the cold side through to the end of the month, although a rise in pressure is expected with many areas becoming settled and fine, the northwest seeing a milder south-westerly flow establishing late in the month.

March 2008
High pressure established across England and Wales where it will be mostly settled and fine, a cloudier milder south-westerly across the north.
High pressure is likely to be controlling the pattern at first, although this is anticipated to drift to the west of the UK, allowing a colder and showery northerly to northeasterly flow to establish across all areas, wintry showers possible.
High pressure is likely to build back through the UK for a time to turn all areas settled although once more this is expected to drift back westwards, a return to colder northerly winds expected for a time.
The end of March is likely to be much more unsettled with strong winds and outbreaks of rain, the flow dominated by low pressure.
