The last round of rain and thunderstorms will be moving across the state with possible strong to severe storms, south of Interstate 20.
A strong cold front will move through the state by late tonight, ushering in the coldest air of the season into the weekend.
But before that happens, the state will have to contend with one more round of rain and thunderstorms, which was moving across Northern Louisiana and across Northern Mississippi.
Where the atmosphere is more moist and unstable, a few thunderstorms will likely become strong to severe (south of Interstate 20) with the main threat coming from damaging winds.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect across portions of Southwestern Mississippi until 1 pm.
National Weather Service Statement:
STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH LATE AFTERNOON.
A MOIST AIRMASS AND GOOD INSTABILITY WILL COMBINE WITH A STRONG COLD FRONT, RESULTING IN A CHANCE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE AREA.
THE PRIMARY RISKS WITH THESE STORMS WILL BE DAMAGING WINDS...UP TO 60 MPH, HAIL TO THE SIZE OF QUARTERS, AND LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL--BUT ONE OR TWO TORNADOES ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.
