Chicago's unsettled spring weather continued today, as heavy fog delayed flight arrivals by up to an hour this morning at O'Hare International Airport.
Visibility dropped to as little as one mile in fog and mist around daybreak at O'Hare and Midway Airports. No delays were reported at Midway. The fog burned off by mid-morning.
Today's weather followed a blustery Monday afternoon, when thunderstorms rolled across northern Illinois and triggered tornado sightings in rural regions west of the Chicago area.
One twister knocked a semi-trailer from a highway shortly after 5 p.m. in Lee County, while another tornado downed tree limbs about 5:30 p.m. in DeKalb County. No injuries were reported.
A Commonwealth Edison spokesman said 500 customers in DeKalb were without electricity Monday night. "These were very minimal storms as far as damage," said Bill Nelson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Chicago.
Today's forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with high temperatures near 80 inland and the lower 70s along the lake. There's a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms through this evening.
Temperatures are expected to fall into the lower 60s tonight. Partly cloudy skies are predicted for Wednesday, with highs ranging from the lower 70s to 80 and a chance of showers and thunderstorms.
