?Waarom denk je dat er in juli tot nu toe zo weinig ijs is gesmolten (of juist wel gesmolten)?
Grootste junismelt ooit was dit jaar, de julismelt is daarentegen kleiner dan in jaren. Hoe kan dat? 't Is aangekondigd op 6 juli door het NSIDC:
"However, it would not be surprising to see the rate of ice loss slow in coming weeks as the melt process starts to encounter thicker, second and third year ice in the central Arctic Ocean. Loss of ice has already slowed in the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas due to the tongue of thicker, older ice in the region noted in our April update."
Momenteel ligt de boel klaar voor een nieuwe grote smeltfase. Ik verwacht dan ook gewoon evenaring of verbreken van het recordminimum van 2007.
