Madrid - Rain, wind and hail wreaked havoc around Spain on Friday, causing flooding, disrupting rail traffic and injuring several people, local officials said.
Floodwater filled the streets of the western city of Caceres in overnight, reaching a depth of more than two metres in some places.
Dozens of cars were caught in the flooding, which entered numerous buildings in the city. Wind gusts uprooted trees, knocked over rubbish containers and sparked power cuts. One person was treated for hypothermia.
In Palencia in the north, a wind gust caused the partial collapse of a bar terrace overnight. Three people were injured.
Power cuts caused by rains disrupted rail traffic in the Barcelona region, forcing firefighters to rescue the passengers of a local train which had remained stuck in a tunnel for over an hour.
A rain and storm alert was in force in nearly the entire country.
