Hard frosts with widespread icy conditions possible
The cold, wintry conditions look set to persist right through the up coming week. Initially most of the snow showers will be confined to eastern and western coasts but we are watching the weather on Tuesday. Models are moving an intense area of low pressure up from France and this has the potential to bring heavy snow, strong winds and widespread disruption to much of the British Isles though England and Wales may see the worst of the condition. Further heavy snow is then possible into Wednesday. Expect hard and severe frosts by night along with icy conditions as temperatures will fall well below zero.

Monday 29/11/10
Very cold today with snow showers expected around eastern coasts of England with a risk of heavier snow moving into northern Scotland. The rest of England and Wales look dry with lots of crisp, wintry sunshine. A widespread and locally severe frost overnight with icy patches. Very windy across Scotland tonight with heavy snow showers in the east. Highs of -1 to 3C.
Tuesday 30/11/10
Today there is the potential for severe wintry weather across mainly England and Wales. A very windy and bitterly cold day to come with outbreaks of snow possible across England and Wales and this may be quite heavy. The snow may be drifting with winds of 50 mph producing blizzards condition. Scotland and Northern Ireland will also have snow or snow showers. There is further risk of heavy snow across much of Britain tonight. Highs of 0 to 3C.
Wednesday 01/12/10
Another very windy and bitterly cold day across the country and there remains the risk of further outbreaks of snow. Some heavy falls are possible, perhaps more so across northern England, Wales and southern Scotland. Highs of 0 to 2C.
Thursday 02/12/10
A raw, north east will persist across Britain with strong winds in the north and west. Across England and Wales expect a mix or rain, sleet and snow. Much of it light. Scotland and Northern Ireland can expect outbreaks of snow and snow showers. Expect a widespread and hard frost and icy conditions will develop tonight. Temperatures only up to 0 to 5C.

Scattered snow showers will affect North Sea coasts today with a few sleety around western coasts as well. Windy still in the east with lots of sunshine inland where it stays dry. Expect highs of 0 to 4C with another widespread, hard frost tonight.
Saturday 04/12/10
Lots of dry, sunny weather to come across Britain today with just a few snow showers across Scotland. Later in the day we may see and area of rain push into the south west of England which may turn to snow as it moves into Britain but confidence is low. Highs of 0 to 4C.
