Turning colder, snow for many next week
[Updated 08:15am 12/12/2010]
Temperatures are now beginning to fall again, and much of the country is waking up to a frost for the first time in several days. The week ahead will see the cold weather returning, and many parts of the country will probably see snow later on. As we head through next week the details aren't clear, but the big picture is. During the early part of the week cold air from the continent will bring the chance of some sleet and snow to the south east, but this probably won't amount to much. From Wednesday onwards arctic air will sweep down across the country, with sleet and snow probably becoming widespread in northern regions. Later in the week it looks as though we will have a cold and unstable flow across the whole of Britain,
producing more precipitation than the early December cold outbreak. This could bring heavy falls of snow to almost anywhere, although in the south and south west there is a moderate chance of rain or sleet falling instead at times.
