Rather cloudy but dry for most in the run up to the weekend, although rain, drizzle and hill snow are possible at times in central, southern and eastern parts. From the weekend, most areas should be dry, although snow showers become increasingly likely for eastern parts, especially near coasts and east-facing upland areas here. Breezy easterly winds will ease over the weekend, with freezing fog likely at times, particularly in the more sheltered west. With the final days of 2010 seeing a brief interlude of less cold conditions, temperatures will once again fall below average over the weekend and into the new year. Largely dry but colder-than-average conditions then look to persist until the end of the period, with frost and icy stretches remaining a risk for all parts.

UK Outlook for Sunday 9 Jan 2011 to Sunday 23 Jan 2011:
The cold conditions look set to continue across the UK, with particularly cold temperatures likely across central parts. This gives a continuing risk of widespread frosts overnight for most regions. Sunshine and precipitation amounts look set to be around average for mid-January but, given the continuing low temperatures, it is likely that many places will see further snow at times.
