I expect one or two of the following sceanrios to develop later next week -
1 - heights will ridge sufficently north and east to pull in an eastery flow particularly to southern parts, with the northern arm of the jet stream being forced on a very northern track. Outside chance of a proper scandi-siberia high development but I suspect troughing over NW Russia will prevent the link up some of us are hoping for. At the same time we will see lower heights strengthening over Spain/S France helping to prop up the easterly.
2 - heights don't build sufficiently north and east, and hence we see the northern arm of the jet taking a more southerly track introducing scandi troughing and preventing any scandi high formation. Consequently heights will be forced to retract west into the mid atlantic and we see a north westerly develop on the north east flank of these heights. The high will then either stay in situ, ridge back over us or possibly move further west and we eventually see a northerly.
Of the two scenarios, ECM today would suggest a slightly less toned down version of sceanrio 1,however, the potential is there for a deep seated easterly still..
