At least 10 persons died and one went missing in rain related incidents in various parts of the country on Wednesday.
Four members of a family died when a landslide triggered by incessant rain swept away a house at Narjamandap VDC-5 in Nuwakot district on Wednesday morning.
Arjun Tamang, his wife Thulikanchi Tamang and their sons Santu Tamang (9) and Jhilke Tamang (7) were killed in the landslide, police said. Twelve-year-old Nirpun Tamang, eldest daughter of the Tamang couple, survived as she had gone to a friend’s house that night.
The landslide that occurred some 500 metres above the house swept it away at around 3 am. A rescue team of Nepal Army extricated the victims’ bodies on Wednesday afternoon. Three buffaloes, two oxen and 12 goats were also killed in the landslide. The landslide has left 24 houses in the settlement at high risk.
In Rasuwa, a Dutch trekker died in a landslide at Bambu area on Wednesday. The dead has been identified as Chris Van Ravesbery. Another Dutch trekker A Van was injured in the incident.
In Kaski, 30-year-old Sangita Pariyar and her 10-year-old daughter Ritika died when a landslide buried a house at Parsyang in Pokhara Sumetropolis-5 on Wednesday morning. Ritika was buried alive while Sangita, who was rescued in a critical state, died undergoing treatment at Charak Hospital. The victims had been staying in the house on rent.
Ranjan Pariyar, the son of the landlord, sustained injuries while five others were reported safe in the incident.
Meanwhile in Khotang, an elderly man died in a landslide in Bahundangi VDC on Wednesday morning. Khadga Bahadur Bhujel, 68, died when a landslip buried his house at Bahundangi VDC-2 at around 5 am, police said. The victim’s wife survived the incident.
In Mahottari, rain-swollen Ratu stream swept away a minor at Loharpatti-4 while another person went missing after being swept away by Ankushi stream in Sarpallo-5 on Wednesday. One-and-a-half years old daughter of Dilip Sah was swept away by Ratu stream, police said. Ramchhabila Kurmi went missing after being swept away by Ankushi stream.
In Rautahat, Jayakali Devi (70) died when her house at Brahmapuri VDC-4 caved in following heavy rain on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, 18 people were injured, some critically, when a house belonging to Bindeshwor Sah caved in at Raghunathpur in Rautahat.
Highest water level in Koshi
INARUWA: The water level was measured at an all-time high this year in Koshi river on Wednesday. Sub-inspector Shambhu Basnet at the Koshi Barrage Police Post said the water flow was measured 209,155 cusec at 9:15 pm on Wednesday.
The water level is increasing as it has been raining incessantly in hilly areas in the east. Due to increasing water flow in the river, 28 of the total 56 floodgates of the barrage had to be opened. Red flags were hoisted and red lights lit on the barrage as a signal of danger.
Nederlander dood door aardverschuiving Nepal

Aardverschuivingen in Nepal hebben woensdagmiddag aan een 28-jarige Nederlandse toerist het leven gekost. De man was met zijn broer en een gids op pad en werd door een aardverschuiving bedolven door een rotsblok.
De twee anderen sloegen alarm, maar de hulp kwam te laat. De man bezweek ter plaatse aan zijn verwondingen.
Dat heeft een woordvoerder van het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken woensdag laten weten.
De man maakte een trektocht in Syafrubeshi, ten noorden van de hoofdstad Kathmandu, toen hij werd bedolven. De andere Nederlandse man bleef ongedeerd.
Het ongeval zou volgens Nepalese media zeker twaalf Nepalezen het leven hebben gekost. De aardverschuivingen waren het gevolg van hevige moessonregens.
