An eyewall dropsonde at about 12z indicated that the maximum surface winds are still near 95 kts. A closed 10-mile diameter eyewall persists and the pressure has dropped 5 mb to 965 mb during the past two hours suggesting that there could be some additional strengthening during the next several hours before landfall on the Florida West Coast. Thereafter the GFS and other models show the strong winds expanding on the east side of the storm as it moves near the U.S. East Coast.
Grofweg: een dropsonde rond 14:00u onthulde dat de winden aan de grond nog altijd gemiddeld 95 knopen zijn (175km/u). Een gesloten, 10-mijl wijde oogmuur is persistent aanwezig en de luchtdruk in de kern is nog 5hPa gedaalt tot 965hPa wat de suggestie wekt dat de storm de komende uren nog enigsinds gaat aansterken. Daarna suggeren het GFS en andere modellen dat de sterkste winden zich gaan uitbreiden naar de oostelijke zijde van de storm terwijl het langs de kust raast.
