Met ingang van dit najaar gaat The Weather Channel diepe winterdepressies die mogelijk voor overlast zorgen een naam geven, op dezelfde wijze als bij tropische orkanen. Een beetje zoals de Duitsers dat ook graag doen in onze buurt
De laatste jaren zijn de Verenigde Staten herhaaldelijk getroffen door zware sneeuwstormen. Om het publiek beter te kunnen voorlichten, en om ervoor te kunnen zorgen dat stormen beter onthouden kunnen worden, is voor dit systeem gekozen. Er is een lijst opgesteld met namen die nog nooit voor een storm gebruikt zijn.
