Computer power is not the only reason why the GFS has not done as well as the European model during recent events. Other important elements of forecast modeling including the quality of physics to model atmospheric processes, the speed at which data and satellite observations can be incorporated into the model, as well as other factors. But make no mistake, more computing power would improve the premiere American forecast model, and give us better weather information.
