Daniel Shaw is een Australier, die elk jaar een paar maand in VS chased, als verslaggever, hobby en ook om mensen te waarschuwen.
Er staat een ander flimpje van hem op Youtube waarin je hem tijdens de tornado in Kansas van vorige week continu meldingen hoort doorgeven over de bui op het Skywarn netwerk.
Zijn verhaal over het moment uit het filmpje:
"A quick post to update everyone. I am ok, a little shaken as can be expected. Made a conscious effort to avoid all the chaser traffic and stayed on I40. Received confirmation via skywarn radio that the tornado was spotted next to union city and was tracking east.
Continued on I40 until visibility made driving difficult. A terrified semi trailer crashed into the back left hand side of my car prior to having the RFD winds flip his semi. I manoeuvred my car to protect mine and wedge him in so we didn't shift together. Based on the sudden NE tracking and growth of the tornado, I believe we were sideswiped by it. Not proud nor happy this happened.
I had no intention of close quarter chasing, nor being stuck in chaser traffic, and chose this safer route to stay north of the tornado. This obviously did not happen. I was assisted by another chaser and abandoned my car at a gas station which was hit by the tornado earlier.
After the 2nd tornado warned storm passed, I returned to find three people needing medical treatment and pets that were hurt. Assisted and treated 3 people and two dogs. Thermal blankets kept one of the terrified dogs from shaking uncontrollably, along with a gentleman who didn't speak much English, but who was also cold and in shock.
Happy that I was able to help others and warn the storm early, but should have stayed further back due to limited road network. Incredible video of the semi trailer flipping over caught on GoPro. Will post at a later date when things have settled."
