Tropical Cyclone Nathan is located off the north Queensland coast about 185
kilometres north of Cooktown. Widespread cloud with rain areas and thunderstorms
extend from this system to cover much of the Peninsula and Gulf of Carpentaria.
The monsoon trough is aligned through this region to Tropical Cyclone Nathan
then continues further east to Severe Tropical Cyclone Pam currently located
north of Vanuatu.
The monsoon trough also extends across the far northeastern Indian Ocean to
Tropical Cyclone Olwyn to the northwest of Western Australia. The cyclone is
generating thunderstorms in its vicinity. Isolated thunderstorm and shower
activity can be seen about the northwest WA. Troughs through the interior of
Queensland and eastern New South Wales are generating showers and isolated
thunderstorms.
Low to mid level cloud over southeastern coastline is generated by cold westerly
air flow in wake of a passing cold front. The remainder of the country is mostly
cloud free.
