Leuk is wel dat alle lijntjes een daling van de AO-index verwachten tegen medio janauri. Ik hield het daarom voorlopig ook maar bij een "lichtpuntje".
Misschien moeten we deze verwachtingen de komende weken maar eens goed in het oog houden. Lijkt weer boeiend te worden met de kans dat het natuurlijk weer op een sisser uitloopt.

Eigenlijk geven de grafiekjes het antwoord al. Op de site lees ik:
"The indices are shown for the previous 120 days as indicated and they are normalized by standard deviation using a 1950-2000 base period. A 3-day running mean is applied to the forecasted indices.
The values at the upper left and right corners of each figure indicate the mean value of the AO index and the correlation coefficients between the observations and the forecasts, respectively.
The first panel shows the observed AO index (black line) plus forecasted AO indices from each of the 11 MRF ensemble members starting from the last day of the observations (red lines).
The ensemble mean forecasts of the AO index are obtained by averaging the 11 MRF ensemble members (blue lines), and the observed AO index (black line) is superimposed on each panel for comparison. For the forecasted indices (lower 3 panels), the yellow shading shows the ensemble mean plus and minus one standard deviation among the ensemble members, while the upper and lower red lines show the range of the forecasted indices, respectively."
Zo zie je dat de AO ensembleverwachting voor 7 dagen vooruit er omstreeks 19 oktober finaal naast zat.
Opmerkelijk is wel, dat het GFS ensemble beter is in het voorspellen van de AO 14 dagen vooruit (corr: 0.4349) dan 10 dagen (corr: 0.3973) vooruit!
