Severe southwesterly gales are expected to develop across Scotland through Tuesday afternoon and evening with gusts of 70-80mph generally, but up to 90mph across western then northern parts. These severe gales will persist overnight. Damage to trees is likely, some being uprooted. Some damage to buildings is also likely. Driving conditions will become dangerous with high-sided vehicles at risk of being overturned, especially if unladen. Motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution. The severity of this warning may be further increased for some exposed northern and western parts where there is a risk of gusts up to 100mph.
