Winter storm watch for city of Calgary upgraded to weather warning Strong winds, reduced visibilities in blowing snow, rapidly falling
temperatures and dangerous wind chills expected Wednesday morning.

Tonight .. Cloudy. Periods of snow and blowing snow beginning overnight. Wind west 20 km/h becoming north 40 gusting to 60 overnight. Low minus 27. Extreme wind chill minus 42.

Wednesday .. Periods of snow and blowing snow ending in the morning then clearing. 30 percent chance of flurries late in the day. Wind north 40 km/h gusting to 60 diminishing to 20 in the morning. Temperature falling to minus 31 in the evening. Extreme wind chill minus 43.

Thursday .. Sunny. Low minus 32. High minus 23.

Friday .. Sunny. Low minus 29. High minus 24.

Saturday .. Sunny. Low minus 29. High minus 13.


An intensifying low pressure system currently off the northern B.C. Coast is forecast to move into the Grande Prairie area This evening and into southwestern Saskatchewan Wednesday morning. In the wake of this system strong north winds approaching 50 gusting to 70 km/h will combine with fresh snow to Reduce visibilities to less than 1 km in blowing snow Late this evening and Wednesday morning. In addition The strong northerly winds will combine with temperatures in The low minus twenties to produce wind chills in excess of minus 40 Wednesday morning.

Conditions will improve from the north Wednesday afternoon as a high pressure system moves into southern Alberta.
