Ja, er zijn ook lijnen (uiteraard) met positieve AO, maar de meerderheid is negatief. Je moet dus naar het gemiddelde kijken zoals we dat ook doen bij een pluim. Daarnaast is de index gebaseerd op CFS. Dat ken je denk ik wel.
dan zouden we zeggen dat na 18 november alles mogelijk is. Bovendien weet ik niet hoe springerig deze verwachting is. Van diezelfde site (waar ik nog nooit van had gehoord) komt ook deze NAO-verwachting, waarop natuurlijk dezelfde kritiek los te laten is.
Wat ik ook niet snap is hoe deze persoon tot zijn index komt. Hij legt wel wat uit, maar juist de voorspellingen die hij gebruikt benoemt hij niet. dat maakt denk ik nogal wat uit voor het resultaat, zeker als dat voor drie maanden wordt berekend.
I define the NAO as the first (varimax rotated) EOF of standardized daily 500 hPa height anomalies in an extended North Atlantic domain (20N-70N, 135W-45E) from 1979 through 2008. This pattern, shown below, is then projected onto recent and forecast data to create the index. The index is standardized by the mean and standard deviation of the base index (again, 1979 through 2008), which is just the first PC. Note that my definition is similar to, but not the same as, CPC’s definition. My index correlates with theirs at roughly r = 0.76.
