Er staat nergens dat 'hemisphere-wide implications' inhoudt, dat de temperatuur sterk daalt.
In de studie staat letterlijk deze conclusie:
Our results imply that declining Arctic sea ice will lead to an increasingly energetic Beaufort Gyre with eddies playing a greater role in its stabilization.
De Beaufort Gyre is een windgedreven oceaancirculatie. De studie concludeert dat deze circulatie turbulenter wordt, waarbij eddies (wervelingen) belangrijker worden in de stabiliteit van de circulatie. Het probleem is behoorlijk complex, maar nergens staat iets over (potentiële) gevolgen voor het klimaat op het noordelijk halfrond. Dat is geheel invulling van de krant The Independent.
