UV radiation from the sun is the primary germicide in the environment. Studies have shown that 90% viruses from the Filoviridae family die after 20-100 minutes in the midday sun ("Predicted Inactivation of Viruses of Relevance to Biodefense by Solar Radiation", C. David Lytle and Jose-Luis Sagripanti). UV radiation is much more effective at virus inactivation than high temperatures. Keep in mind that every virus reacts differently to UV radiation. There are studies on the sensitivity of coronaviruses to UV radiation, but none have been conducted yet on the new COVID-19 virus. Additionally, most experiments are carried out in a laboratory setting with wavelengths slightly different than those of solar radiation. For these maps, it is assumed that 1.8 MJ/m^2 of UV radiation reduces the number of active viruses by a factor of 10.
