GFS Upgrade : May
Added [Friday March 11 2005 : 8:10:53 PM]

NOAA have confirmed at last major upgrades to the GFS weather model (which is what we use) to occur during May 2005.

In short, the result will be :-

- More accurate short range forecasts due to increased resolution.
- More accurate longer range forecasts due to increased resolution and atmospheric levels.

For the weather nerdies out there, here are the full list of changes :-

- Current forecast resolution from T+0 to T+84 at 0.5° resolution will be increased out to T+180 at 0.5° resolution.
- Current forecast resolution from T+180 to T+384 at 2.5° resolution will be increased 1.0° resolution
- Horizontal resolution from T+180 will increase from 42 levels to 64 levels
- Available output timesteps from T+1 to T+180 will increase from 3hr intervals to 1hr intervals.
A good bike ride fixes everything.
