Eerste orkaan van het Atlantische stormseizoen: orkaan Elsa

Ik zit nu ik de laatste week van mijn literatuurstudie voor m'n thesis dus daarom ben ik op dit moment vrijwel volledig afwezig van het forum en heb ik de afgelopen tijd ook geen updates geplaatst over het Atlantische stormseizoen. Maar bij deze dan een heel kort bericht aangezien tropische storm Elsa net tegen de verwachting in snel is aangesterkt tot een orkaan. Zelfs de meestal vrij agressieve orkaanmodellen HWRF en HMON lieten Elsa nog een tropische storm tot ~1 dag na passage van de eilanden, maar nu precies boven Barbados wordt Elsa al opgeschaald tot orkaan. Hopelijk is er niemand gewond geraakt en heeft iedereen de late waarschuwing toch nog ontvangen. Het komende uur vliegt een recon vliegtuig nog door de storm voor meer gedetailleerde metingen, maar op basis van grondmetingen op Barbados is de upgrade nu dus al gemaakt.

...ELSA STRENGTHENS TO A HURRICANE...

Surface observations from Barbados indicate that Elsa's maximum 
sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph, and the cyclone 
is now a hurricane.  A special advisory will be issued within the 
hour in place of the normal intermediate advisory. 

The Meteorological Service of Barbados has issued Hurricane 
Warning for Barbados, St. Vincent, and the Grenadines. 

The Meteorological Service of St. Lucia has issued a Hurricane 
Warning for St. Lucia.

The Meteorological Service of Barbados reported a sustained wind of 
74 mph and a gust to 86 mph.
