ISTANBUL, Dec 24 (KUNA) -- Heavy and prolonged snowfalls blanketed the Turkish economic capital Saturday and turned it more luring for residents.
Overnight the city came under heavy snowfall that fully paralyzed traffic and forced thousands of staff and workers to stay at home.
The blizzard conditions and freezing temperatures made many roads impassable.
The governor here declared state of emergency and warned resident to be on the guard when leaving home for emergencies.
Vehicles abandoned country roads that hampered the efforts of gritters to reach isolated spots and some gritters themselves became trapped. (end) ta.
