1/1 to 7/1
During the first half of the week southern and central areas should have a fair amount of dry weather, although there will be some rain around. In the north and west it will be less settled with outbreaks of rain at times. Temperatures close to the seasonal average. The second half of the week is expected to bring colder but mainly dry weather with overnight frost into southern and eastern areas. In the north and west temperatures are likely to remain close to the seasonal average, with some rain probably clipping the north western fringes.
8/1 to 14/1
A rather cold and frosty start to the week in the south and east with the possibility of some sleet or snow showers developing in eastern coastal counties. Temperatures close to average in the north and north west. During the second half of the week it is likely to remain rather cold in the south and east, but mainly dry. Some more general spells of rain may affect western areas and as these push eastwards some of the rain may turn to snow.
15/1 to 21/1
Early rain or snow is expected to clear away leaving the UK in a rather cold but mainly dry continental air stream. Through the week we expect an increasing risk of a bitterly cold air pushing into eastern and central parts of the UK, with heavy snow showers developing widely, and well inland. Overnight frost is expected to become severe and persistent through the daylight hours in places. North western areas are likely to be less cold at times with the possibility of some rain, sleet or snow pushing in from the west.
22/1 to 28/1
A breakdown in the colder conditions is expected to develop during the week. As this happens there is the potential for significant snowfall especially in eastern, north eastern areas and possibly parts of Scotland. South western and central southern areas should be mild by the end of the week, although cold air may persist for a time in the far east and north east.
29/1 to 04/2
A rather changeable week with generally milder weather. Bands of cloud and rain are expected to push in from the west and be interspersed with brighter and showery conditions. Temperatures are likely to be generally above the seasonal average.
5/2 to 11/2
A mild and unsettled start to the week is probable with cloud and rain affecting north western parts in particular. A progressive change to drier and much colder conditions is expected during the week. Later on snow showers are likely to begin filtering in from the east once more, and some of these could be heavy. Frost developing widely and becoming severe in places.
12/2 to 14/2
Very cold with severe frost and widespread snow showers or longer spells of snow
