... Winter Storm Warning in effect today and tonight...
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect today and tonight for all of central and south central Minnesota including the Twin Cities metropolitan area... St cloud... Mankato... Albert Lea... Redwood Falls and Alexandria. In west central Wisconsin... a Winter Storm Warning is in effect today and tonight from Maiden Rock... Menomonie and Ladysmith north and west through Rice Lake... Hudson and Balsam Lake.
Areas of light snow and freezing drizzle early this morning will give way to widespread snow by mid morning. The snow will persist through the afternoon with accumulations of 4 to 6 inches evening. A few more inches of snow will occur Sunday evening before the snow diminishes to flurries. North winds of 20 to 25 this afternoon and tonight will cause considerable blowing and drifting snow in open areas.
Remember... a Winter Storm Warning means that severe winter weather is imminent or highly likely. In this instance... heavy snow along with severe blowing and drifting snow are the specific hazards that are anticipated from this storm.
This is a dangerous winter storm. If you will be traveling... be willing to change your travel plans. If you must travel... make sure you have a shovel and a winter storm kit in your vehicle in case you become stranded.
