HEAVY rain and flash flooding are expected from a series of storms moving across Sydney and the NSW central coast, weather forecasters warned tonight.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 7.22pm (AEDT) for the Sydney metropolitan area, Gosford and Wyong areas.
Thunderstorms currently moving over the CBD, Stadium Australia and Sydney Airport were heading southeast and would affect the Sutherland, Engadine and Liverpool areas up until about 8pm (AEDT) and then Manly, Helensburgh and Gosford.
"Very heavy rainfall and flash flooding are possible," the bureau warned.
The State Emergency Service (SES) urged people to stay clear of water ways, remain indoors and avoid using the telephone during the storm.
The weather warning was expected to last until about 8.30pm
