F0 Landspout Touches Down in Tippecanoe County

On Sunday, June 25, 2006 at approximately 315 pm EDT a landspout touched down just south of Odell, IN in Tippecanoe County. The damage rated an F0 on the Fujita Scale. An F0 tornado has winds less than 73 mph.

The touchdown occurred near the intersection of State Road 25 and County Road 1160 South.

A landspout is a tornado that does not arise from organized storm-scale rotation and therefore is not associated with a wall cloud (visually) or a mesocyclone (on radar). Landspouts typically are observed beneath Cumulonimbus or towering cumulus clouds (often as no more than a dust whirl), and essentially are the land-based equivalents of waterspouts.
