Storm in Noord-Oosten houdt flink huis.

Powerful storm slams Northeast

The Northeast continues to be hit by a strong coastal low today. Heavy rains fell over coastal sections on Sunday, and will continue to do so today. Today's heaviest rains are expected in coastal New England, where up to 8 inches of rain is possible, particularly along the Maine Coast. Flood watches, coastal flood warnings, and flood warnings continue across portions of the Northeast Coast this morning. Coastal flooding could be an issue around the times of high tide today, particularly ahead of the center of low pressure as it makes its way up the coast.

Boston will also be exceptionally wet and windy, with over 2 inches of rain expected and winds blowing on-shore at 35 to 50 mph through the day today for the Boston Marathon. Wind advisories and high wind warnings are posted along the New England Coast as well, with winds expected to gust between 50 to 60 mph at times today.

Farther inland, heavy snow will rule the day in the interior Northeast. Snow amounts of one to two feet are possible over the Adirondacks in Upstate New York through Northern New England. Winter storm warnings are posted for much of Central and Upstate New York, as well as Vermont, New Hampshire, and interior Maine.

Some light rain and snow is also possible into the mountains of western North Carolina and western Virginia, as well as in eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

In the West, a storm system that brought the first measurable rainfall to Los Angeles in almost a month (March 21st, specifically) will bring a chance of thunderstorms to the Four Corners today, with rain possible as far north as the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest. This system will bring a chance of thunderstorms to the Southern Plains on Tuesday, and the Southeast on Wednesday.
