Here is an ADVANCED WARNING of Severe Gales and Heavy Snow affecting Scotland, Northern Ireland, North West England, North East England, The Midlands, Wales, and East Anglia AND Lincolnshire.

This is an update to the early warning issued at 10:27 Friday 6 February 2004.
The Met Office is forecasting a low to come south into the North Sea later today, strong winds on its western flank pulling cold air down across the country. Showers will start to fall as snow over Scotland this morning, especially over high ground, whilst winds increase through the day to give gusts of 60 to 70 mph with blizzard conditions at times in upland areas. Showers will fall increasingly as snow today and tonight over the hills of England, Wales and Northern Ireland, perhaps temporarily to low levels too.
The swathe of strongest winds this evening and tonight will affect southern parts of Scotland, the eastern fringes of Northern Ireland, as well as northern and eastern England as far south as East Anglia, with gusts as high as 70 or even 80 mph in places, creating dangerous cross winds on roads and strong enough to blow down trees and cause some structural damage. During Sunday strong winds will ease and snow showers will become confined to eastern coastal districts, mostly dying away later.
This warning will be updated at 0900 tomorrow, Sunday 8th February, unless superseded by a flash message.
