Cyclone with roaring wind and snowfall expected in Far East

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, November 17 (Itar-Tass) - A cyclone with roaring wind and snowfall is heading towards Sakhalin, the Kuriles, and the southern part of Kamchatka. It will also cause problems in the northern districts of Khabarovsk Territory of Russia. All the storm-fighting services were alerted in the regions, which will most likely be hit by the looming cyclone, Itar-Tass was told on Monday at the Far Eastern Regional Centre of the Ministry for Emergency Situations.
The snow may blur visibility in the northern part of the Sea of Japan, in the south-western and western parts of the Sea of Okhotsk and also in the Tatar Strait. Wind velocity will go up to 18-28 metres per second. Traffic between populated localities may be interrupted by the snowfall and airport schedules may have to be amended. Power transmission and communication lines may be damaged by the weight of snow. The unfavourable weather conditions will last from November 17 to November 18.
The Ministry for Emergency Situations recommends the population to take all the necessary measures to ensure their personal security and the safety of their property. “it is necessary to observe precautions and to go outside less frequently, not to drive automobiles in order to avoid injuries,” officials of the Far Eastern Regional Centre of the Ministry for Emergency Situations warned.
