THE Whitby area is bracing itself for heavy snowfall tomorrow (Thursday).
The Met Office has issued warnings for people to be prepared for widespread icy roads while the police are urging motorists to consider whether their journey is necessary if the roads are snowy or icy.
NHS North Yorkshire and York is also advising people to keep warm and keep well ahead of Thursdays predicted wintry weather.
Forecasts say the heavy snow will arrive in the early hours of Thursday accompanied by gale force southerly winds and there will be significant accumulations of snow and some drifting.
Tomorrow will see the heavy snow being replaced by sunshine and scattered showers during the morning with it starting to thaw.
Gale force southerly winds will become strong westerly, adding an extra chill factor.
But the outlook for Friday and Saturday is brighter with sunshine and scattered showers.
