MOSCOW, February 14 (Itar-Tass) -- The heavy snowfall in Moscow this Saturday has caused many traffic congestions, an unprecedented number for a weekend. It may be considered the heaviest snowfall this year.

Kilometres-long congestions are seen on all the highways leading out of the city, traffic police reports. Automobiles stand on half of the Garden Ring. There is almost no movement on long sections of the Bulvarnoye, Third Transport and Ring Roads. Congestions on Leningradskoye, Pyatnitskoye and Kaluzhskoye Highways extend far from the city. There are jams even in cities near Moscow. The total length of congestions on Moscow streets is several tens of kilometres.

The traffic police ask drivers to be careful and strictly observe the speed, distance and other rules. Poor visibility and such road conditions may cause accidents. A little more accidents than usually on Saturdays have been already reported in the city.

Meteorologists warn that the snowfall will last in the region at least till 21:00. However, those Muscovites who are not in automobiles and walk in the open air are very glad that it is snowing. The temperature is rather comfortable -- one degree below zero.
