Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport closed on Sakhalin over snowfall

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, February 15 (Itar-Tass) -- The Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport was closed on Sakhalin over a heavy snowfall. The air harbour does not receive and depart airplanes; the runway is cleaning up. According to the flight controlling service, a new report about the operation of the airport will be transmitted not earlier than 14.00 local time (07.00 Moscow time on Sunday).
The highway leading to Nevelsk is also fully blocked on the south of the island. The Lovetsky Pass happened to be in snow captivity. The serpentine road is swirling on steep highland slopes for more than 10 kilometers. The graders have been cleaning up the snow from the pass since Sunday morning.
The snow cyclone has temporarily subsided on southern Sakhalin, but a short snow cyclone will approach the island already on Sunday afternoon, weathermen said.
