Areas of considerable precipitation were expected Sunday as a developing low pressure system roared out of the Rockies and into the Plains before moving northeast toward the Great Lakes.
Heavy rain, thunderstorms and even severe weather were possible as the cold front moved through the Plains. The Storm Prediction Center said there was a moderate risk of severe weather in western Oklahoma and eastern Kansas and tornadoes were possible.
There was also a slight risk of severe weather from central Texas through southern Wisconsin.
More rain and high elevation snow were likely through the Northern Rockies as the storm moved northeast through the Plains.
Meanwhile, the eastern seaboard was expected to remain dry and warm thanks to a ridge of high pressure. Temperatures in the Northeast were expected to rise into the 70s and 80s, with temperatures in the 70s, 80s, and 90s in the Southeast. Temperatures were expected to be in the 80s and 90s in the Southern Plains while remaining in the 50s and 60s in the Northwest.
Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Saturday ranged from a low of 5 degrees at Yellowstone, Wyo., to a high of 96 degrees at Culpeper, Va.
