Dat mogen ze dan wel in zo'n krantenartikel vermelden daar bijna iedereen bij een hittegolf aan de zomers warmte gedurende langere periode denkt zoals dat in Ned en BE gebruikelijk is. En niet aan winterhitte, terwijl dat volgens dat artikel ook een hittegolf is.
Wie zegt dat? Als de 95ste percentiel van alle dagen in de periode 1906-1990 neemt kom je alleen op zomerhitte of -warmte uit natuurlijk.

Doubled length of Western European summer heat waves since 1880

5 [1] We analyzed a new data set of 54 high-quality homogenized daily maximum
6 temperature series from Western Europe to define more accurately the change in extreme
7 warm Daily Summer Maximum Temperature (DSMT). Results from the daily temperature
8 homogeneity analysis suggest that many instrumental measurements in the late 19th
9 and early 20th centuries were warm-biased. Correcting for these biases, over the period
10 1880 to 2005 the length of summer heat waves over Western Europe has doubled and
11 the frequency of hot days has almost tripled. DSMT Probability Density Function
12 (PDF) shows significant changes in the mean (+1.6 ± 0.4C) and variance (+6 ± 2%).
13 These conclusions help further the evidence that Western Europe’s climate has become
14 more extreme than previously thought and that the hypothesized increase in variance
15 of future summer temperature has indeed been a reality over the last 126 years.
