biomass growth under eCO2, reflecting a similar lack of response observed in other eCO2
experiments on mature trees. Incorporating leaf-scale gas exchange measurements into a
process-based tree stand model, it was estimated that the observed +19% stimulation of light-
saturated overstorey leaf photosynthesis corresponded to a +12% stimulation of whole-canopy
gross primary production (GPP) response to eCO2 . However, the probable fate of the extra
