Een verklaring voor het stijgende ijs op de zuidpool kan ik niet geven. Er is vast iemand die dat wil uitleggen.
Rond de Zuidpool is het over het algemeen aan het afkoelen. Uitzondering vormt het Antarctisch Schiereiland, daar warmt het flink op. Oorzaak voor die afkoeling aldaar heeft te maken met luchtstromingen en neerslag. Dit staat ook allemaal beschreven in het laatste IPCC rapport, over die luchtstromingen citeer ik uit het rapport van werkgroep 1 (hoofdstuk 3, paragraaf 3.6.8):
In the SH, SAM (SAM = Southern Annular Mode, BL.) changes are related to contrasting trends of strong warming in the Antarctic Peninsula and a cooling over most of interior Antarctica. The increasing positive phase of the SAM has been linked to stratospheric ozone depletion and to greenhouse gas increases.
